Technological developments for the Arctic: reliable solutions for challenging climatic conditions
The annual forum “Arctic: the present and the future”, traditionally held in Expoforum on December 10-12, 2020 under the aegis of the “Association of the Polar Explorers of the Russian Federation and A. Chilingarov”, took place in difficult conditions. Fewer participants than usual and strict preventive measures nevertheless didn’t prevent the forum from being productive. St. Petersburg administration traditionally paid attention to the event. Vice-Governor Batanov E.V. and the chairman of Arctic Committee G.G. Shirokov made a tour around the exhibition to get acquainted with innovative technical solutions.
“Safe Technologies” Industrial Group presented at the forum technological developments in the field of gas fueling (LNG and CNG), as well as waste disposal equipment that can operate in the Far North. There was a lively conversation with representatives of the scientific community, students and other visitors at the stand. “The Arctic: Present and Future” is a closed forum, where there are no random people, so all meetings benefit both sides of the dialogue.
The project of processing associated petroleum gas into methanol, a topic that has been of interest for years, was also discussed. Due to the government decree that prohibits burning of this valuable resource in the amount of more than 5% of the total, there are many solutions that can formally bypass this prohibition, but with an efficiency of about 5%. Processing APG into methanol would produce a useful product and truly utilize this type of raw material (APG).
